Follow my progress on my first ever blog, I aim to publish at least one piece of art a week and maybe one a day. I'm going to develop my technique and experiment with new ones and a variety of subjects.

2 Jan 2017 - New Year Balloons
2nd Jan 2017 'New Year Balloons' Acrylic on paper (14.8x10.5cm)
Day 2 and this isn't going to be as easy as I'd hoped, but no pain, no gain, right?
I took lots of photos at the NY party and I'd thought balloons would be an easy topic to help me 'warm up'.
I was so WRONG, as the lighting and the shadows meant that I worked over and over again, buckling the paper and my favourite medium, acrylic, couldn't save me. Frustratingly, I spent the majority of the day on this tiny painting.
I think the published result looks better than the real one.
NB: I won't use any editing tools to change the colours, but will try to display them as close to the original as possible.
Lessons learnt? Hmm, a few, I'm going to delve into one of the 3 arcylic books I've got and work on one technique and research backgrounds!

1 Jan 2017 - 2017 & the Glasshouse Mountains
2017 - Michelle's Year of Art:
First artwork - '2017 & the Glasshouse Mountains', oil pastel on paper (14.8x21cm)
Comment: this came out of a desire to have some sort of title page for the blog, it's 2017 and I'm living on the Sunshine Coast in South-East Queensland, Aus, near to where these stunning mountains are.
1st January 2017, a new year and a new blog, my first blog.
So why now and what's its purpose?

1st January 2017, a new year and a new blog, my first blog.
So why now and what's its purpose?
I've set myself a challenge to create artwork over the coming year.
I’ve been inspired by reading Carol Marine’s ‘Daily Painting: Paint Small and Often to Become a More Creative, Productive, and Successful Artist’ and the website http://www.dailypaintworks.com/Home/About
While I’m not going to commit to doing a painting a day, I will do at least one a week.
I want to improve myself, I want to learn new techniques, experiment with different media and subjects.
I’ve been a frustrated artist for longer than I care to admit, I’ve travelled and that’s been a reason and an excuse. I’ve bought art materials, sketch pads and canvases, but I rarely found the time to do anything with them, I've always found more 'important' things to do, but the desire I had as a girl to just create is not there anymore. So what's happened to me?
Reading Carol’s book, I realise that I’ve had the very common artist’s block.
I need to change this and this blog is the perfect way, one reason for it is that I’m halfway through a Postgraduate Diploma in Education on my way to be an art teacher, and who ever heard of an art teacher with artist's block?
Fate, it seems has given what I’ve wanted, a reason to get back to creating, so that's what I'm going to do on this blog.
I got an array of books to help inspire me if I get stuck and I also plan to join the local art society, who knows I might even put some artwork into an exhibition, real or online!
I welcome your comments and constructive (please) criticism, and some gentle prodding if I haven’t posted in a while.
I hope that you will come with me and enjoy this journey.
Michelle
